The Composite Review is dedicated to providing a platform for young, emerging writers. If you are a student or young writer looking to publish your first piece, we’d love to hear from you. We publish poetry, short stories including flash fiction and six word stories, as well as essays and memoirs. Poems and short stories can be of any length or number, any genre, any style. There are no limits.
We always conduct a close reading of any submission and review its qualities before considering it for publication, and will give feedback if your work is turned down. If this is your very first submission to a literary journal, please consult our guidelines or email us with any specific questions. Submitting creative work can be a daunting process – but we’re not like other journals.
You must be at least 15 years of age to submit your work to The Composite Review. If you are aged between 24-29, we will give priority to those that have fewer than three publications. Our focus on providing a platform for young writers means we are unlikely to publish submissions from authors older than 30, but will still carefully review any work by older authors provided they are emerging or unpublished.
We accept submissions in .doc, .docx, and .pdf formats. Please include your name and contact details at the top of the document, as well as a brief bio that includes your age and any previous publications.
We prefer prose submissions to be double-spaced, 12pt Times New Roman, with a wide left-hand margin.
